The Wakahuia is a sacred vessel such as a canoe or anything designed to carry and protect sacred objects.
The Wakahuia then is a sacred carved box which was used for storing valuables "Taonga" such as special carvings or the feathers of the Huia bird worn on ceremonial occasions.
