A bound Hei Toki pendant with binding, hand-carved in beautiful speckled New Zealand jade or pounamu by Ernesto Ovalle. Ernesto was entranced by this stone, which is quite unusual, which is why he made a series of these.

Complete with an adjustable plaited waxed braid cord, it also includes a traditional woven presentation case and a detailed description of the meaning of the carving.

These are a series of three unique pieces, each made from the same piece of stone, so there are minor variations. 

The Toki is the adze blade was bound onto a wooden handle and used to carve the great canoes and details on the meeting houses.   It represents a creative or artistic person and the coming together of head, hand and heart.
