Kahurangi Jade Pārera (Duck)
SKUA handcrafted Duck pendant carved in stunning New Zealand green Kahurangi Pounamu from the South island. Here are some words from the artist about the creation and design of the piece: In a discussion about morals a man once said the cryptic phrase
“Ka neinei au ki Matangireia ki te whare o Io Matua kore. Ko tōna marae ātea ko Te Rauroha”. I didn’t for the life of me understand the word “neinei”. Although there are layers to this talk he gave me this understanding. “I shall strive with head thrust forth to the sacred shelter of the highest. His courtyard is named Hundredfold Love”. Looking up the word “neinei” I found the example given referred to a duck and how it moves with its head thrust forward (like a competitive runner). I remembered the mysterious Korotangi Bird (said to have been brought on Tainui). The exquisite color of this stone made it my choice for such a theme. The intention, to remind us that if we want something we must do the journey.
“Whaia te pae tawhiti, ko te pae tata, whakamaua kia tīna” Seek the distant horizon, the close horizon, grasp it firmly”!
