Jade Guest Artists

These carvings are a mix of very traditional and contemporary styles by guest artists.

*** Huge stock clearance specials in this gallery ***

Many of these special carvings are unique custom or limited edition pieces that will not be repeated on our site and therefore do not appear in our stock catalogue. Some of the "designs" may be repeated but the colour, pattern and texture of the special jades from which each is carved makes most pieces very unique.

Please Note - Some examples on these pages show the carvings with a degree of back lighting to illustrate their luminosity.
This is how they look when held up to a light so they may appear a darker shade of green when held in the hand or worn against the skin.

All carvings are supplied complete with a traditional style cord & bag.
Most cords are hand made from black waxed braid with a loop and bone toggle fitted. A woven flax presentation case and information on the meaning of the design is also included.
Cords & Packing Detail

Fast airmail shipping worldwide is now from just US$6.95 for up to 5 pendants.
All pricing is in US$.

As many of these carvings can never be replaced if lost in transit, we highly recommend choosing one of the courier delivery option.

Pounamu and Jade Carvings by Local Artists

The rugged West Coast is the home of New Zealand's sacred Pounamu (nephrite jade) where it is found as boulders in the high mountain streams.
These exclusive and rare carvings are one-off pieces by guest artists such as Margaret Bishop, Roger Cleghorn, Dean Hethrington and Brant Travis. These often very reclusive artists mostly from the west coast of the South Island of New Zealand produce some of the countries finest work with an unmistakable inner beauty and simple but stunning form and quality.

We are truly honored to be able to display some of their work here.

This design represents the Toki or Adze blade ("adz" in American English) which was used to carve the
great canoes and also to cut and work timber for the fortresses or Pahs in which the Maori lived.
The bindings at the top were used to hold the blade on a wooden handle.
It was such an important tool in Maori life that it became regarded as a symbol of power, authority and good character.
It is also the mark of the craftsman and artist which is why they were gifted to many of the actors from the
Lord of the Rings Trilogy which was shot in New Zealand.
