A huge hand crafted ancient style Porotaka Matau pendant carved in New Zealand jade or Pounamu by Yuki Tanaka.  

This style is believed to be a very ancient form of Matau or hook though knowledge of how it was used has been lost.

When jade is subject to intense heat such as near a fire or volcano, the colour sometimes changes to the beautiful earth tones seen in this amazing piece. 

Complete with an adjustable plaited waxed braid, it also includes a traditional woven presentation case and a detailed description of the meaning of the carving.
