Large Chatoyant Tangiwai River Stone Drop by Malcolm Cox

A large hand crafted New Zealand Chatoyant Tangiwai Drop pendant by Malcolm Cox.

This piece is carved from a river stone so it retains some of the rough natural surface textures of the original stone as found in a wild west coast river.

Tangiwai Pounamu is actually a type of bowenite which is different in chemical composition to the more common nephrite jades.
Chatoyance or the "cat's eye effect" which is a bit like the sheen off a spool of silk, shows as constantly changing colours and patterns inside the stone.  As you move the drop the patterns and streaks of light inside appear swirl around within.

Complete with an adjustable plaited waxed braid cord, it also includes a traditional woven presentation case and a detailed description of the meaning of the carving.

This is a one of a kind piece so it will be permanently removed from our gallery when sold.

The drop is regarded as a touch stone used in meditation to calm and center the spirit.
