Lilach carves in Kauri Amber, Bone and Jade

All carvings are supplied complete with a traditional style cord & bag.
Most cords are hand made from waxed braid with a loop and bone toggle fitted. A woven flax presentation case and information on the meaning of the design is also included.

Kauri Amber Carvings

Hand carved from pure Kauri Amber which is the fossilized sap of the giant native Kauri tree.

Most is 30,000 to 40,000 years old while some can be millions of years old so Kauri amber is a very rare treasure with an unbelievable aura. Floating within its golden or clear form are small pieces of ancient plants and sometimes even insects from the ancient forest floor, long before the time of man.

Amber is not heavy like jade, it is actually very light weight, almost like a plastic so is very easy to wear.

About The Artist - Lilach Paul

Lilach lives in a rural and bush area near the Kumeu river which is very rich in life and nature from which she takes a lot of her inspiration.

She came to New Zealand about 12 years ago and found the cultural differences between the two countries extreme. The mix of Pacific cultures in New Zealand and her own heritage have also inspired a lot of her designs which often represent the coming together of peoples in peace and harmony.

Another of her passions in life is the old alchemical / esoteric teaching, that basically means the old (and new for that matter) sciences i.e.: astrology (astronomy), alchemy (physics), hermetic (psychology) Kabala (mystica) etc. These are all extremely rich in symbols and meaning that really talks to her so that and the grace and beauty of the Maori and pacific art and symbols are Lilach's main inspirations.

Lilach chose to work in bone for many reasons but one of the main ones was that bone in her language also means "essence". When Lilach carves in bone she feels that it allows her to portray the real essence of her thoughts and feelings as well as being the ideal medium for the incredibly fine detailed work which is her signature.

Azure:
Azure is a close friend of Lilach's and they work together on many of their creations. She has the same passion and a very unique artistry about her work so Lilach and Azure compliment each other perfectly in their craft.
