Featured Artist Galleries - Jade

The beauty of real New Zealand Pounamu is unsurpassed ranging in colour from semi translucent with swirls of green that seem to float deep within the stone to the rare and exotic flower jades found nowhere else in the world.

These artists work with this gift from the gods to create works of unbelievable beauty and power featuring the extraordinary craftsmanship of true masters of their craft.
They also occasionaly work with special jades brought in from places such as Australia and Canada so you will also find a few of these featured in this section.

A wide range of styles are represented by these artists from the very traditional to the more contemporary and abstract pieces.

Many of the pieces that will be showcased are exclusive and unique works which will not be repeated. Some of the basic "designs" may be repeated but the colour, pattern and texture of the special jades from which each is carved makes most pieces very unique.

Omni Caeon

Omni is a very passionate artist with a special place in her heart for Pounamu and this shows in the stunning artistry and the incredible quality of her work.
Omni first found her passion for the craft when she attended an exhibition of jade carvings by Don Salt. She was awed and deeply moved by the perfect beauty and intrinsic soul of his works. This inspiration stayed with Omni so she was very pleased when in 1989 Don consented to instruct her in basic stone working skills. Her growing passion and love for jade had influenced her attitudes and way of life ever since.

Terry & Ruth Urban

Deceptively simple yet elegant carvings that show off the hidden beauty within a rare form of Pounamu.

American born Terry and Kiwi Ruth live in Nelson at the top of New Zealand's South Island, the home of Pounamu.
Terry's designs are contemporary but often reflect his sense of humour with their quirky, fun style. Ruth had helped Terry with the finishing work on his pieces and only started working stone herself recently. Ruth loves the outdoors, especially the beach and native bush so her pieces reflect this love of nature.
These two amazing artists have a real passion for their work and love nothing more than talking to people about their stones which is why you will still see them at the Nelson markets every Saturday morning.

Kelvyn Anderson

Kelvyns work is based on very old artifacts and cave drawings which often predate Maori settlement by thousands of years so they have a very raw chunky feel to them.
He is one of the longest standing and best known high-quality jade artists in New Zealand and is widely recognised by other master carvers as a genius. Though he is somewhat eccentric, his creativity, dedication to research and pursuit of perfection is second to none.

Hepi is one of most famous Maori master jade and bone carvers in New Zealand and has a strong following world wide.
His work is often traditional yet has a very distinct flair and style which is instantly recognisable.
Hepi has a passion for the sacred Pounamu and has a way of seeing the flowing forms and curls hidden deep within the stone so his works reflect what he sees and feel in each piece.

Most of Hepi's carvings are very sculptural in form with delicate overlapping spirals yet also a sense of strength and power. He is best known for his spectacular sculptures which blend traditional and contemporary styling with the beauty of true Pounamu.
